Public quota given to MPs must be cancelled –Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah

Host of Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy Morning Show, Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah has called for the cancellation of the public quota given to Members of Parliament (MPs).

According to him, the practice is wrong and must be wiped out from the country’s governance system since it breaches transparency and fairness.

“We must not entertain that. If it is wrong, it is wrong. I don’t see why a quota should be given to any Member of Parliament or a Minister. I am saying that is must be cancelled, it is wrong, in fact it is absolute balderdash. Why can’t students be admitted based on their suitability for the position. Why is it that, I have been given a list and whether the person is qualified or not, he or she must be admitted because the person was brought in by an MP” he indicated.

The public quota system permits MPs to nominate a certain number of individuals within their constituencies for admission to government schools and security agencies, a practice that is now under scrutiny for its potential impact on frankness and equity.

During the mid-week edition of the Happy Morning Show, Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah voiced concern about the potential implications of the system. He feels admissions should be based solely on merit and standardized criteria.

“It shouldn’t be that there are vacancies in certain areas or certain sectors of the economy and by dint of somebody not being connected to a political party or MP. This is public employment, it is advertised for people to apply. You are going to be picked based on merit, based on your qualification, whether you qualify for that position or not” he argued.

The call for the cancellation comes amid growing conversations about reforming systems that impact public services and educational institutions and Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah’s stance on this issue prompts a reevaluation of existing practices to ensure that public services, especially in education remain accessible and impartial for all citizens.
