The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the postponement of its parliamentary primary in the Akuapem South constituency, a decision triggered by a petition received from the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South, Frank Aidoo.

The primary, initially scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024, will now be rescheduled to allow the party leadership to address concerns and controversies surrounding the candidacy.

Frank Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive, submitted a petition urging the party leadership to permit him to contest the parliamentary primary.

This request comes in the wake of the surprising withdrawal of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), O.B Amoah, from the race. O.B Amoah had previously announced his decision not to seek a fourth term as the MP for Akuapem South.

However, he later made a U-turn, picking up nomination forms to re-enter the race.

In response to the petitions and the dynamic developments, the NPP’s general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, issued a statement explaining the decision to postpone the primary.

The statement highlighted that the postponement is necessary to allow comprehensive consultations and address the concerns raised by both the constituency and regional executive committees.

“We continue to rely on your unflinching commitment and cooperation,” the statement concluded.
