Absa is proud to announce its continued recognition as a Top Employer by the prestigious Top Employer Institute for the third consecutive year, across five markets – including Ghana, Zambia, Botswana, Kenya and South Africa. This certification confirms the bank’s commitment to creating an aspirational workplace as well as maintaining exemplary people practices and initiatives that consistently meet and exceed rigorous global benchmarks.

This recognition also highlights Absa’s dedication to providing a human-centred work environment, nurturing talent at all levels, continually optimising the employee experiences and delivering people practices that set the standard for the industry.

The Top Employer certification covers best practices in six HR domains consisting of 20 topics including People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Wellbeing and more.

Commenting on the awards, William Easmon, Absa Bank Ghana LTD People & Culture Director, noted: “We are incredibly honoured to be certified and recognised as a top employer once again. This achievement reaffirms Absa’s position as a leading employer of choice and most importantly, our commitment to building an organisation that prioritises colleague wellbeing, fosters talent growth and drives performance excellence.”

“We are committed to people, we live excellence, inclusion, stewardship and we continue to build an aspirational workplace,” he added.

In a statement confirming the award, Top Employers Institute CEO, David Plink said: “Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations. And we have witnessed this in our Top Employers Certification Programme this year: exceptional performance from the certified Top Employers 2024. These employers have always shown that they care for the development and well-being of their people. By doing so, they collectively enrich the world of work. We are proud to announce and celebrate this year’s group of leading people-oriented employers: the Top Employers 2024.”

Being certified as a Top Employer showcases an organisation’s dedication to a better world of work, which is exhibited through excellent HR policies and people practices.

In 2023, Absa was rated top among “the 25 best workplaces to grow your career” in an annual survey by LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network with more than 900 million members. Absa was also recognised in the fourth edition of Forbes’s World’s Best Employers ranking in the same year. Lastly, at Supreme Healthcare Management Services’ Authentic & Caring Employer (ACE) Awards, Absa Bank Ghana picked up the highest award of the day – Overall Best: Authentic & Caring Employer of the Year, and three others – ACE Organisation of the Year for Financial Services, Employee Well-being of the Year and Most Innovative HR Practical Organisation of the Year.

As a purpose-led organisation, Absa remains committed to excellence, fostering diversity and inclusion, and empowering its workforce to shape a brighter future for Africa, one story at a time.

Happy Mass Wedding: Be prepared for the seasons of marriage- Counsellor to couples Renowned counsellor, Mary Anna Adu-Gyamfi has advised couples to make a conscious effort to understand the different seasons that married couples go through. According to her, it is important couples acknowledge and navigate these seasons in order to strengthen their relationship and build a solid foundation that can withstand any challenges that comes with marriage. Speaking on the theme: “Building a Happy Marriage” during the Happy Mass Wedding Counselling Session, Mary Anna said marriages often go through various stages which may include the honeymoon phase where newlyweds swim in the joy and excitements of a fresh union, the settling stage where couples adjust to living together, the child-bearing phase where all the focus shifts on raising a family and the time to refresh the relationship when children leave home. “There are stages in marriage you have to pay attention to. The honeymoon stage where everyone is saying good things about you and everything the man and woman do is perfect. The intimacy is good everybody says nice things to each other and that goes for a long while, the settling stage is where everything starts to settle and you see the man for himself and the woman for herself, the things she does that you don’t like will start manifesting but at that stage you must understand and know yourself and the person you are with. The realization stage is when everything comes out, the good and the bad. The child bearing stage also has to do with how you manage yourself and the children because some men are taking responsibility whereas others are not and everybody comes with his or her mindset, this stage especially in those times, it is important that you seek counsel.” She believes being aware of these seasons and understanding the challenges can help couples navigat them more effectively because, “There would be a time where the man would not be happy about some actions of the woman and vice versa but with understanding you will be able to navigate through.” Mary Ann encouraged couples to share personal experiences and emotions, advising them to avoid entertaining friends and relatives into the marriage, "Be careful with the kind of friends you are making. Some friends are not good some friends also get closer than siblings. It’s not everything happening in your marriage you tell your friends just the same way you don’t get up and tell your parents you just learn to solve issues among yourselves and then there are instances where people tell their friends about their marriage and the whole neighborhood gets to know about it.” She further emphasized that it is crucial for couples to develop the habit of effective communication, which she believes is the foundation to a happy marriage.fi has advised couples to make a conscious effort in understanding the different seasons that married couples go through.
