Parliament is set to resume its first meeting of the fourth session today, February 6, 2024, at 10:00 am, according to a statement released by Parliament on February 5, 2024.
In the upcoming session, a substantial agenda awaits the lawmakers, with a total of 82 bills slated to be presented before the House.
Some of the key bills to be discussed include the Aged Persons Bill, 2023; Advertising Council Bill, 2023; Consumer Protection Bill, 2023; Public University Bill; and the Ghana Road Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
The Parliament will also focus on advancing twelve bills that are currently at the committee level. Notable among them are the Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, of 2023, which falls under the purview of the Committee on Gender and Children, and the Social Protection Bill, of 2023, also under the same committee.
The session will further address private member’s bills, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Amendment) Bill, 2021, and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2023, before the House goes on recess in anticipation of the upcoming general elections.
The Parliament is expected to engage in robust discussions and deliberations over the proposed legislation, with a focus on addressing pressing issues related to social welfare, gender equality, consumer protection, and amendments to existing laws.
