Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has made a return to his duties in Parliament following an extended period of medical treatment abroad.

Mr. Gyakye Quayson had been absent from parliamentary proceedings for several months due to health concerns, which had kept him away for the majority of the last session.

In a statement to the media within the Parliament premises, Gyakye Quayson assured the public of his restored health and his eagerness to serve his constituents and the nation of Ghana. “I am alive and strong… Sometimes in life, you have to take care of yourself. I am back in full swing and I am going to take care of my constituents, caucus, and country Ghana,” he stated.

Despite the legal challenges he has faced, Gyakye Quayson remained optimistic about his political future and the prospects of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the upcoming general elections. “We are going to win and we are going to succeed again. Let’s keep hope alive,” he confidently indicated.

The journey back to Parliament has been fraught with legal battles for Gyakye Quayson since his initial election in the 2020 general elections.

A prolonged legal dispute over his eligibility to hold office led to his temporary removal from Parliament, followed by a subsequent bye-election in the Assin North constituency, which he won convincingly with 57.56% of the votes.

However, Gyakye Quayson’s return to political prominence was once again overshadowed by legal troubles, including charges of forgery and perjury brought against him by the Attorney-General’s Office.

Despite these challenges, his legal counsel, Tsatsu Tsikata, has vehemently defended him in court, particularly concerning allegations related to the acquisition of a Ghanaian passport.
