Vice president of the Ghana Football Association, Mark Addo has urged the public to disregard reports that Nigeria budgeted less than $2 million for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The GFA and Ministry of Sports have been heavily criticized for approving $8.5M million for the AFCON per documents released by North Tongu MP, Okudzeto Ablakwa when other competing teams budgeted less than $2 million for the same tournament.

Reacting to questions about Ghana’s huge budget and the comparison with other countries, Mark Addo who also doubles as the Black Stars Management Committee Chairman said the $1.3 million the media has reported is not true.

“It is not true that Nigeria only spent $1.3M at AFCON 2023, it’s fake news. We know the facts and are aware that the media is reporting fake news,” – Mark Addo said at the GFA meet the press in Kumasi monitored by happyghana.com.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently in the semi finals of the AFCON and will face South Africa for a place in the finals on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
