Bible Society of Ghana kickstarts Bible Week Celebrations with annual Symposium

The Bible Society of Ghana hosted officials and high rank members from a variety of fraternities for its annual symposium, marking the commencement of the 2024 Bible Week Celebration of the Bible Society of Ghana

This year’s symposium, which was held at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Conference Room and themed ‘The Bible: Guide for Peace, Unity, and Development’ focused on how believers can change the narrative regarding development in Ghana and the eradication of conflict and violence.

General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana, Very Rev. Dr. John Akwesi Addo Junior in his welcome address noted that the development of the nation Ghana is hinged on the cooperative efforts of believers to promote peace in their respective fields.

The first guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Femi B Adeleye, railed in the attention of many individuals regarding the gap made by believers and the holistic inconsistencies which have resulted in the rampant conflicts across the continent. He added that peace can only make impact in the continent if believers stand as a united front.

Also gracing the event as guest speaker, Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng believed that the peace experienced in Ghana is not enough to establish a smooth pace for national development.

She termed this peace as partial peace, which only exists due to the absence of war.

The Board Member of the Electoral Commission, relayed that true peace comes from Jesus and is able to facilitate development in all sectors of the nation. She encouraged all believers to stand for the Shalom Peace as she termed it encompasses justice, harmony, tranquility, goodwill, freedom of movement, freedom of association and freedom of worship. “Ghana has peace but not true peace. A peace that stands on the shoulders of Christ’s Shalom is the peace Ghana needs for national development. The truth is if not defined in this way, then it is possible that while there may be no war or violence in an environment, there is still no peace. The absence of war without the freedom of life, the absence of war without the prosperity, the absence of war without the ability to feed one’s family is no peace at all.”

Affirmations for peace were taken by representatives of the various fraternities after a musical rendition delivered by Labone Senior High School Music Group. These were taken by Constituency Secretary of New Patriotic Party (NPP); Samuel Nii Lankai Lamptey, NDC Chairman of the Odododiodio Constituency; Paul Nii Obli Laryea, General Secretary for People’s National Convention; Madam Janet Nablah, District Police Commander for Jamestown; Alenxander Tieku on behalf of all security agencies, Kokrobite Mantse; Nii Offei III on behalf of traditional leaders, Moderator of The Global Evangelical Church; Rt. Rev. Prosper Samuel Dzomerku on behalf of the clergy in Ghana, International Director of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship; Owusu Amoah on behalf of business and private sector in Ghana, and Labone Senior High School’s, Ms. Michelle Acheampong on behalf of the Youth in Ghana all pledging for peace before, during and after the election.

Attendees were enlightened on the tasks executed by the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) and their pursuit to make God’s word available and affordable to all manner of people nationwide. The brief talk initiated by the General Secretary of the BSG, inspired the masses to give cheerfully and be part of this noble cause.

The Bible Week is observed annually in the month of February. It is a period set aside by the Bible society of Ghana, together with the Christian churches in the country, to thank God for Bible work and also to highlight the translation efforts that have made the Bible available in various local languages for easy understanding and use.
