President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has indicated that the GJA is willing to take any measure to uphold the safety of journalists nationwide.

The statement follows the disagreement of Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) regarding GJA’s decision embark on a media blackout. He termed the move of the GJA as dysfunctional and believed that there are more appropriate ways to ensure safety of journalists.

The principal speaker of the GJA, in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with host, Bismark Brown indicated that the judicial system of government has failed in administering justice for journalists.

He added that the media blackout, which involves the blacklisting of certain political figures is a very effective way of dealing with the rampant cases of abusing journalists and oppressing press freedom. “The system has failed us. The system has failed journalists; if we take a look at all the reports we have made concerning the abuse of journalists what has the system done in bringing justice to journalists.”
