The Minority in Parliament has criticized President Akufo-Addo’s recent ministerial reshuffle, denouncing it as uninspiring and incapable of tackling the country’s deepening economic woes.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs lambasted the President’s approach to governance, asserting that the reshuffle fails to provide a viable solution to the ongoing economic crisis.

In a scathing press statement issued by Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, they condemned what they termed as the government’s belated response to the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.

They particularly pointed fingers at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his Economic Management Team, holding them responsible for exacerbating the economic turmoil.

“It is also too little too late, coming barely nine months to the exit of the government. Neither will it solve the suffering and hardships confronting the people of Ghana as a result of the bad governance and massive uncontrolled corruption of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia’s government,” the statement read.

The Minority criticized the appointment of individuals whom they referred to as “injury time reserves,” suggesting that these officials have been sidelined for over seven years and are unlikely to make a significant impact in salvaging the country’s deteriorating economic situation.

They further accused President Akufo-Addo’s administration of engaging in excessive spending, leading to the depletion of state resources. They highlighted issues such as unsustainable debt, economic crisis, high taxation, poor governance, and alleged corruption within the government’s ranks.

President Akufo-Addo formally notified the Speaker of Parliament of the government’s new composition on Tuesday, February 13, in accordance with the provisions of the 1992 Constitution.

Despite these changes, the Minority remains skeptical about the government’s ability to effectively address the pressing economic challenges facing the country, casting doubt on the impact of the reshuffle on Ghana’s future trajectory.
