Mali captain Hamari Traore has been given a four-game ban due to unethical behaviour towards a referee.

The 32-year-old defender was handed a red card immediately after his team’s loss to Ivory Coast during the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on February 3rd.

Following the game, there was a physical altercation between Traore and referee Mohamed Adel, resulting in Traore being dragged away by his teammates.

Half of the ban imposed on him is suspended for one year.

Additionally, Mali’s football federation has been ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 for their players’ unsportsmanlike behaviour toward a match official.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast’s federation has also been fined $5,000 for their players’ misbehaviour.

Separately, Senegal’s Krepin Diatta has been sanctioned for criticising the Confederation of African Football in remarks he made following his team’s penalty shootout loss against Ivory Coast in the round of 16.

He received a four-game ban, with two games suspended for one year, and was fined $10,000. The Senegalese federation was also fined $5,000 for their players’ misconduct.
