President Akufo-Addo called for a critical meeting with NPP MPs at the Jubilee House on February 21 in an attempt to resolve the growing tension within the NPP caucus surrounding potential leadership changes.

The meeting comes amidst reports of a deepening divide within the caucus over proposed reshuffling of the front bench in Parliament.

Sources close to the matter reveal that differing opinions within the party have fueled tensions, with some advocating for a change in leadership while others advocate for the retention of the current leadership structure.

Those advocating for change, argued that Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu may not return to Parliament in 2025.

Consequently, they suggest that his deputy, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, should assume leadership responsibilities to ensure a seamless transition in the forthcoming government.

Notably, on February 20, a group of NPP MPs led by 1st Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, issued a stern warning against any contemplated changes in leadership. They expressed contentment with the performance of the current leadership under Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

The meeting at the Jubilee House is anticipated to provide a platform for dialogue and consensus-building among party members. President Akufo-Addo’s involvement highlights the gravity of the situation and the party’s commitment to resolving internal disputes amicably.
