President Nana Akufo-Addo has lamented the glaring discrepancy in attention and recognition between Ghana’s men’s and women’s football teams – The Black Stars and Black Queens.

During his State of the Nation Address today in parliament, President Akufo Addo seized the moment to highlight the remarkable achievements of the Black Queens.

He mentioned their commendable record of ten matches without a loss, a testament to their unwavering dedication and skill.

Yet, amidst their stellar performance, the president did not shy away from acknowledging the recent heartbreak suffered by the Black Queens—a narrow defeat to Namibia in the final qualifying round for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Akufo-Addo rallied the nation to stand behind their women’s team, urging unity and support as they forged ahead.

“Even though they lost narrowly to Zambia in the first leg of the qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games let us wish them well in the second leg to be played in Lusaka tomorrow, and hope they give us something to cheer about.”

The queens are currently in Lusaka and will take on the Copper Queens of Zambia tomorrow, February 28 in the second of their Olympic Games qualifiers. They lost the first 1-0.
