Wontumi warned to stay away from Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman

The hypocrisy of using 'Grandma' as an insult

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah Deputy National Women’s Organizer National Democratic Congress, has cautioned Ashanti Regional Chairman, Benard Antwi Boasiako for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over attacks on the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang.

According to her, the attack is a clear indication of a lack of respect for women, which should not be countenanced in Ghana’s growing democracy.

In a press release she emphasized that,
ordinarily, his actions does not deserve a dignified response especially when he is already known as irresponsible, reckless and unmannered loose talker.

She called on the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman to apologize unconditionally to Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang and all women, for this dispicable attack on womanhood.

Press Release

For Immediate Release
[24th March, 2024]

WONTUMI AND THE NPP SHOULD STAY OFF PROFESSOR NAANA JANE OPOKU AGYEMANG

I have become aware of several media reports sourced to a Nothern Gold TV’s live discussion, where the NPP’s uncouth and foul-mouthed Ashanti Regional Chairman is reported to have launched a desperate attack on the 2024 Running Mate of the National Democratic Congress, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, accusing the venerable Professor of secretly getting married to H.E. John Dramani Mahama in 2012, and also hailing from the Northern Region and not Central Region as is publicly known.

Ordinarily, this useless and desperate propaganda does not deserve a dignified response especially when the person reported to have made those useless allegations is a known irresponsible, reckless and unmannered loose talker.

I however deem it necessary to respond in my capacity as a Woman because of the misconceptions it may leave on the minds of unsuspecting Ghanaians if not addressed.

Firstly, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang at no point in her well-lived life has been engaged to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

Secondly, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang is a true daughter of the Central Region, since she hails from the region.

It is quite sad that the NPP’s only antidote to Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang’s sterling and impeccable qualities is this old-fashioned style of fabrication of lies and personal attacks.
It is evidently clear that this recent attack on Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang is a well-rehearsed plan of the NPP since their unmannered Ashanti Regional Chairman enjoys the full support of the NPP’s Flagbearer.

We have in Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, a true leader, an accomplished academic, a trailblazer, and a decent and respectful Woman.
She has since her maiden selection as Running Mate in 2020, brought back glory,
dignity and decency to the high office of Running Mate of a major political party, and hopefully will transfer same to the office of Vice President from January 7, 2025.

I call on the NPP’s irrational Ashanti Regional Chairman to apologize unconditionally to Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang and all women, for this dispicable attack on womanhood.

I also call on all Ghanaian women to stand up to the defence of our trailblazer, Professor Opoku Agyemang who is obviously on a mission to bring pride and glory to womanhood.

Similarly, i call on the chiefs, Elders and good people of the Central Region to openly speak against the deliberate attacks on their daughter and rise to her defence in the interest of the Region’s enviable image.

Ghanaians should know the NPP for who they are, as they have over the years launched deliberate and well-rehearsed attacks on Women who boldly elect to sit around the table of leadership and decision making.

Finally, I want to reassure His Excellency John Dramani Mahama of our unflinching support for him as Ghanaian women going into the 2024 elections, for the confidence reposed in us through Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang and for bringing glory to womanhood once again.
We will stop at nothing to make the much awaited John Dramani Mahama-Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang presidency a reality from January 7, 2025.

Glod bless Ghanaian Women, God bless the NDC, God bless Ghana.

Signed;
Abigail Elorm Akwambea Mensah
Deputy National Women’s Organizer
National Democratic Congress
