Athletic Bilbao, led by Ghana’s dynamic duo, Inaki Williams and his brother Nico, have ended their 40-year wait for the coveted Copa del Rey trophy.

The final played at the Estadio Olímpico de Sevilla, saw Bilbao take on Mallorca in a tightly contested affair. Despite an early setback when Mallorca took the lead through Daniel Rodriguez in the 21st minute, the Bilbao refused to be deterred.

Nico Williams, the younger of the two brothers, played a pivotal role in Bilbao’s fightback, providing the assist for Oihan Sancet’s equalizer in the 50th minute. The stage was set for a dramatic showdown, as the match went into extra time with the scoreline locked at 1-1.

In the nerve-wracking penalty shootout, Bilbao’s composure shone through, securing a 4-2 victory and ending their long-standing trophy drought.

Nico Williams was rightly named the night’s most valuable player, showcasing his exceptional talent and contribution to the historic triumph.

Inaki Williams, the elder sibling, may not have made the scoresheet, but his influence on the team was undeniable. Throughout the Copa del Rey campaign, the Ghanaian forward had already made his mark, scoring two goals and providing two assists in five games.

For the Williams brothers, this victory holds immense significance, not only for their personal careers but also for the proud nation of Ghana.
