World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24: Meet Team Ghana’s representatives

Team Ghana is set to participate in the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24, a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Ghanaian team consists of Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Isaac Botsio, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Edwin Kwabla Gadayi, who will compete in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

The qualification process for the World Athletics Relays Nassau 24 involves the top eight teams in each discipline from the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23, with the host country also allowed to enter one team in each discipline.

The remaining teams will be determined based on top lists during the qualification period from 1 January 2023 to Sunday 7 April 2024. The top 14 teams at the World Athletics Relays Nassau 24 will automatically qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Team Ghana’s participation in the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 is a significant opportunity for them to secure their place in the Olympic Games. Their impressive 4x100m relay time of 38.43s at the 2023 African Games places them 15th in the world rankings. However, the team needs to maintain their performance and potentially improve their time to secure their ticket to Paris.

The 4x100m relay time of 38.43s at the African Games qualifies Team Ghana for the Olympic Games this year, but there are a few technicalities and a long way to go. While this time puts them in a promising position, it’s early in the outdoor athletics season. Ghana and other African nations are some of the few who have competed in a major relay race so far. As the season progresses, other countries will likely post faster times, potentially pushing Ghana down the rankings.

The team has a chance to solidify their position at the Penn Relays this month. They’ll need to maintain their sub-39 second pace, as this competition will be fierce with many teams vying for better rankings.

The experience gained by runners Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Edwin Gadayi, Ibrahim Fuseini, at the African Games could be a valuable advantage and also the inclusion of speedster Isaac Botsio.

The most crucial qualifier for the Olympics is the World Relay Championships in Bahamas on May 4th. The top eight teams in the finals will automatically qualify for Paris, regardless of their previous times. Reaching the finals in Bahamas is Ghana’s best shot at securing a spot.

If they miss the finals, qualification will come down to world rankings and overall season times. The top qualifiers from Bahamas will be joined by the teams with the best times throughout the season. While Ghana’s current position is promising, there’s still much work to be done. They’ll need to maintain their strong performance and potentially improve their time to secure their ticket to Paris.

Team Ghana’s participation in the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 is a crucial step towards qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With a strong team of talented athletes, they are poised to make an impact in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. As the qualification period progresses, fans and supporters of Team Ghana will be eagerly watching their progress, hoping to see them secure their spot in the Olympic Games.
