Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Bronze Medalist, Samuel Takyi, has revealed his reasons for making the switch from Amateur to Professional boxing. The enterprising boxer faced a tough decision after returning to the Amateur ranks to help Ghana win gold at the 13th African Games.

In an interview on Happy Sports with Ohene Bampoe Brenya, following his signing with Mr Michael Amoo Bediako’s Streetwise Management and Promotions / Dibella Entertainment, Takyi expressed the challenges and determination required to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

“My decision to switch is what I feel is the best for me at this moment, and I am going to win a world title for Ghana,” Takyi stated confidently.

“I have records to break, and I want to be the first Ghanaian Olympics medalist to win a world championship.”

The boxer revealed he is still under the guidance of Coach Dr. Ofori Asare at the Wisdom Gym, a setup he feels comfortable with as he embarks on his professional journey.

Takyi acknowledged the current state of Professional Boxing in Ghana and his ambition to elevate it to new heights, putting the country on the map.

“Professional Boxing is down in Ghana, and I am coming to raise it to a different level,” he declared.

Despite the pressure that comes with his achievements and aspirations, Takyi remains unfazed. “I don’t feel any pressure because I have been through a lot and experienced a lot at the Amateur and Professional level,” he said. “I saw it at the Olympic level and know it.”

With his Olympic Bronze medal and a wealth of experience under his belt, Samuel Takyi is poised to make his mark in the Professional ranks, chasing his dreams of becoming a world champion.
