The Ghana men U-17 national team continued with their good start in the ongoing WAFU Zone B Championship after recording yet another 2-0 win over Benin in their second and final group game of the competition.

The Starlets nipped on two first half goals from Mark Kagawa Mensah and Theophilus Ayamga to snatch another precious win to finish as winners of Group A.

Coach Laryea Kingston made only a change from the team that started the first game – introducing Ernest Ofori in the line up this time to replace Abdulai Nortey in midfield.

Mark Kagawa Mensah opened the scoring account for Ghana on the 18th minute after Joseph Narbi pressed high up an opposition player on the right and put him through right on stealing the ball with a good pass.

Three minutes later, a beautiful exchange and swing of ten passes from the Starlets fell on Theophilus Ayamga who struck from range and targeted the bottom left corner to double the lead.

In the second half, Ghana looked very relaxed and dominated the game in terms of possession but couldn’t register any goal as their Beninese counterparts looked resolute in defence this time.
The win means the Black Starlets will finish as winners of Group A with six points having already marmalized Cote D’Ivoire by 5-1 in the opening game.

They have now advanced to the semi final and are just a win away from booking a spot in the next Africa U-17 Cup of Nations- which has eluded the country for seven years now.
