MYO Global has donated sanitary pads to girls at the Saint Paul’s Anglican School in Labadi to Commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day under their ‘Pad The Girl’ project.

MYO Global, a youth-focused advocate and non-governmental agency, committed to shaping a better future for the youth launched the ‘Pad The Girl’ project in 2023 at Dodowa Presby School.

Under the theme ending period poverty; a collective action now, MYO on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, visited Labadi Anglican Basic School to Commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day and also adopt the school under its wing.

After sharing sanitary pads to the girls and some female teachers, MYO Global also organized a workshop to educate them about menstrual hygiene while urging the boys to support their mates and not make mockery of them during their menstruating periods.

Vida Mintah, Project Coordinator for MYO Global’s Pad The Girl Project told Happy News that coming to Labadi was part of their mission to spread their wings across annually in order to curb menstrual poverty by making sure girls get access to sanitary pads.

“This is an annual project we do, last year we were in Dodowa and this year we decided to come to La Anglican to do the project and next year we will go to another place.”

“This is a way to curb menstrual poverty because it is not right that something as natural as menstruation will have a toll on young girls preventing them from getting education because they will have to sit at home during the period since they cannot afford sanitary pads.”

She added that they have adopted the LA Anglican Basic School and will be providing sanitary pads for them monthly as they do for Dodowa Presbyterian School with the help of their sponsors and partners.

“With the help of our sponsors Labadi Beach Hotel, Panavest, Gold Bridge, GoldenTree and Strategic Mobilization Limited, we will be providing them with sanitary pads monthly like we have been doing for Dodowa Presbyterian School. So it won’t be a one off thing and we will be here every month to donate,” Vida Mintah added.

Students of La Anglican Basic School thanked MYO Global saying “we have learnt a lot today and we didn’t even know that you have to change your sanitary pads during menstruation from 4-6 hours. We were also happy that they educated the boys on the kind of help they can offer and not be mocking us during our periods.
