A security expert, Samuel Owusu has said that the way the police handled the case of Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Phillis Naa Koryoo created unnecessary tension.

In an interview with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah on Happy fm 98.9 morning show he stated that every Ghanaian has the right of possessing a registered licensed gun to protect them regardless of whoever the person is apart from the gun being an assault riffle.

According to him, the Police created unnecessary tension by arresting Naa Kooyor for possessing pump action gun licensed or not.

“This issue would have been handled by the police in a professional way for continuous investigations to proceed whether the gun has a genuine license or not. They would have also kept the gun and asked for license documents later to minimize tension if only that was the reason for her arrest”.

“Even though the police are trying to do their job and sanitize the system for people to get assurance that the police are capable of maintaining law and order, however I expect them to handle cases amicably to prevent tension or else it will create the impression in the mind of people that chaos may arise especially in this political season”, he noted.

He urged the Police to do their work in the interest of peace to maintain law and order in the country because these issues are bound to happen in this election year.
