The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has called on the government to disburse funds to the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which is set for July 8, 2024.

In a statement issued on Friday, June 21, 2024, and signed by National Coordinator Bernice Mpere-Gyekye, GNECC expressed serious concern over recent announcements from WAEC about the upcoming BECE.

GNECC emphasized that BECE is not only vital for assessing students’ academic progress but also for determining their placement in senior high schools and that any disruption to this examination could have far-reaching consequences for the educational and future career prospects of these young learners.

“We do not want a situation that pertained last year, where six months after the BECE examination, WAEC has still not paid examiners, invigilators and a host of other service providers who helped to make the exams a success. These issues do not only affect the integrity of the examinations, but also cast doubts on the success of future examinations”, parts of the statement read.
