The West African Music and Arts Festival is a pioneering event in Ghana, which celebrates the rich cultural diversity of West Africa on a global stage. The festival features a variety of activities, including the Juneteenth Parade.

The West African Music and Arts Festival is designed to unite industry professionals and enthusiasts, offering a platform to showcase and educate on West Africa’s dynamic music and arts scene. The festival features performances by renowned artists, engaging panel discussions, and opportunities to discover emerging talent from across the continent.

Scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2024, the Juneteenth Parade commenced at the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre and ended at the Accra Tourist Information Centre (ATIC).

Speaking to Happyghana.com, Dialo Sumbry, the President of the African American Association of Ghana, expressed the association’s desire to celebrate Juneteenth in Ghana. He noted that Juneteenth is being celebrated in Ghana the second time and as part of their mission, the African American Association of Ghana aims to educate Ghanaians about African American history and their return to the homeland.

He mentioned that Juneteenth was celebrated last year, and this year’s event is even bigger and better, with plans to continue annually.

Mr. Sumbry added that, it is a partnership involving the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Beyond the Return initiative, and the West Africa Music and Arts Festival.
