The Institute of African Women in Law is set to climax their futuristic Gender Equality in Law Campaign (GELC) on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the prestigious Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.

The high-level convening comes off as the final event of what began in April earlier this year. The campaign has raised awareness about the challenges women in law face through evidence-based research and public advocacy to ignite policy reforms for equitable and women-inclusive legal institutions.

The campaign which began on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 has strategically highlighted the collective commitment of the Office of the Chief Justice, and the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) in collaboration with the IAWL. According to a statement released by the IAWL, the highly anticipated convening will be graced with the presence of many renowned women personalities from many sectors within the legal profession and other sectors.

Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo will be the special guest of honor, alongside Professor Margaret Satterthwaite, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers. President of the Ghana Bar Association Women’s Forum, Her Ladyship, Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, while making remarks on the prominent gathering noted that special guests have strategically been selected to make the important meeting an effective one. “We are honored to have Her Ladyship, Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo and other distinguished leaders within the legal profession join us for this important event. Their support and participation will significantly contribute to the success of this campaign and amplify our efforts to address gender gaps within the legal profession.”

The statement signed by the Executive Director of the Institute of African Women in Law; J. Jarpa Dawuni, Ph.D notes the program is set offer the right platform for a platform for critical discussions, knowledge sharing, and strategic collaborations aimed at driving meaningful change.

Participants will discuss critical issues affecting women in the legal profession, share best practices, and identify actionable solutions to promote gender equality and women’s leadership in law.
