The Supreme Court of Ghana has adjourned the law suit filed by media practitioner and lawyer Richard Dela Sky against Parliament and the Attorney General to July 17, 2024 for ruling.
On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, the Supreme Court heard the case brought by Richard Dela Sky, who is also a researcher, against the Parliament of Ghana and the Attorney General concerning the passage of the controversial anti-gay bill.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo informed the court that the two cases would not be consolidated, and separate rulings would be issued. The lawsuit was filed after Parliament passed the contentious Anti-LGBTQ bill, which was awaiting the president’s assent to become law.
Dela Sky is challenging the constitutionality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, arguing that it violates several provisions of the 1992 constitution and infringes on the fundamental human rights guaranteed by the constitution.
