A shooting incident occurred in Danso, a community in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region, resulting in five(5) persons, including a one-year-old toddler, being injured.

According to Mr Frimpong an eyewitness, the incident followed a clash between the community youth and alleged Chinese illegal miners on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

The conflict reportedly started when armed police and military officers arrested 15 individuals accused of gold theft on Friday night around 11pm . The community claims that the Chinese have been engaging in illegal mining activities, circumventing the legal process established by the Bosome Freho Community Mining initiative launched in November 2023 by the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, Akwasi Darko Boateng together with the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mireku Duka.

During the confrontation, four adults and a toddler were shot and are currently receiving medical attention.

The community has expressed concern about the surge in illegal mining activities, leading to tensions and violence. Military officers have been deployed to the area to restore calm and maintain order.
