Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye has revealed that the government has allocates 60% of the Ministry’s annual budgets for enhanced road maintenance.

Speaking at the Ghana Highway Authority’s 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary launch on July 8 at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra, the Minister commended past and present leadership of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) for their dedication to developing the authority over the past five decades, despite facing numerous challenges.

He highlighted GHA’s significant contributions to road development and reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining all urban roads. He announced that the government of Ghana has allocated 60% of annual budget to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to enhance roads development.

Mr Asenso-Boakye said, the passing of the National Roads Authority bill, awaiting presidential approval, will establish a new agency to support the Ghana Roads and Highways Authority in developing the country’s road network. This allocation and the new agency demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, enhancing transportation, and driving economic growth.

Furthermore, Mr. Asenso-Boakye announced the launch of a Call Centre App, a innovative tool that enables citizens to report deplorable road conditions directly to the Ministry.

By downloading the app, individuals can upload images of problematic roads, providing real-time information for prioritized maintenance.

This cutting-edge technology will enable the Ministry to address road infrastructure challenges more efficiently and responsively.
