The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has doubled down on his assertion that President Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpass those of any other Ghanaian leader.

His remarks on July 9 has sparked debate, with some political watchers taking umbrage with the comparison between Akufo-Addo and Ghana’s founding father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and demanding a retraction and apology. Despite the backlash, Napo remains resolute in his praise for the current president’s accomplishments.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, made the contentious statement at his formal introduction as the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket.According to NAPO the undeniable truth is that President Akufo-Addo has achieved unparalleled success in terms of development, surpassing all predecessors since Ghana gained independence.

Unfazed by the widespread criticism, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) reiterated his stance a day after the backlash, steadfastly maintaining that his assertion about President Akufo-Addo’s unprecedented success is indeed the truth, despite the overwhelming disapproval from various quarters.

During a visit to Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, the Omanhene of Wasa Amenfi Traditional Area in the Western North Region, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) reaffirmed his earlier statement, maintaining that President Akufo-Addo’s development achievements surpass those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president.

He lamented that in today’s political climate, truthful statements are often met with accusations of arrogance, while falsehoods are praised and applauded.NAPO expressed his heartfelt desire to visit Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, which he finally fulfilled, describing the opportunity as divinely ordained. He gratefully acknowledged the chief’s blessings and support following his inauguration on Tuesday. Napo also emphasized the importance of reintegrating traditional leaders into the country’s governance structure, recognizing their historical authority and roles.

He clarified that this call aims to acknowledge and respect the chiefs’ influence in national and local administration, rather than drawing them into partisan politics.Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) stated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia believes that chiefs should be acknowledged as vital development partners, collaborating with political leaders to drive progress.

Napo also took the opportunity to introduce the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Wasa Amenfi, Ernest Acheampong, and requested Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim’s blessings and support for his candidacy.
