The Minority in parliament has threatened to invoke article 102 and 104 of the constitution if the flagbearer of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh do not release NPP members of parliament to attend to parliamentary business. Minority first deputy Chief Whip, Ibrahim Ahmed on Friday 12 July 2024, raised the matter expressing the minority’s disappointment over the low turnout of NPP MPs.

“Mr Speaker, let’s count, we are the majority, government must bring government work and government must make sure that its benchers come. And when government has a program, government must take into consideration that they’ve been given a four year mandate to execute, as I speak to you flagbearer is in the north and running mate is in the south campaigning and the MPs are following them instead of coming to sit here to do government work, meanwhile you still have four months 1 week to be in government”, he lamented
He noted that the majority side is thinking of breaking the Eight rather than solving problems.

“Mr. Speaker this is serious, the constitution must be respected what I want to say is that, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must release the MPs to come to parliament and work including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempreh”, he demanded
The Banda legislator served notice that if the flag bearer and his running mate refuse to adhere to their call, they will invoke article 102 and 104.
“Mr speaker, either than that we will invoke article 102 and 104 and raise quorum, the constitution must be respected, you cannot be breaching the constitution and speak about renewal of mandate, we must be serious in this house. And Mr. speaker if that is not done, once they invoke the constitution and call by 15% which we all came, so when the time comes and we invoke it, we must stick to our calling, we will come and sit here doing government work and you’re roaming in our constituencies doing campaigning”, he added
Mr. Ahmed further served notice that if by next week all the one hundred and thirty-eight members of the majority caucus are not in, they will also allow their members to go and campaign.
