The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has suspended all services in response to the government’s decision to freeze their July salaries. At an emergency meeting on July 23, the National Council members unanimously decided to halt all activities, including attending meetings, participating in ceremonies, providing academic counseling, and supervising students in residence halls, effective immediately until further notice.

CETAG said they had referred the illegal directive to freeze their July 2024 salaries to their lawyers to take the necessary action on it immediately. On July 22, 2024, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) directed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to halt the salaries of all striking CETAG members for July 2024, with the exception of the Principals.
