The Paramount Chief of Akwamu Traditional Area, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, has urged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of unity and resilience in order to overcome mental slavery.

Delivering a keynote address at the Emancipation ceremony held at Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on Thursday, July 25, in remembrance of W.E.B Du Bois, George Padmore, Afua Sutherland, and Kwame Nkrumah, Chief Akoto III emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in achieving true freedom.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III highlighted that, our forefathers during their era went through slavery under their colonial masters, but due to their perseverance and unity, they took over freedom from their colonial masters.

He lamented that although Africa has abolished physical slavery as Kwame Nkrumah noted “our fight for freedom will be meaningless until we all, as one, defeat mental slavery”.

To be mentally free as Africans, we must be collective and purposeful in shaping our future in all aspects of development. He concluded that the resilience and unity of our forefathers led to the abolishing of slavery, and therefore, Ghanaians should cultivate the habit of unity to build a brighter future.
