The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has leveled allegations of bad faith against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, citing the government’s over-reliance on sole-sourcing in contractual agreements. Sammy Gyamfi, the party’s Communication Officer, asserts that this approach has become a pervasive practice under the Akufo-Addo administration, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in government contracts.

Dredging up past statements, Sammy Gyamfi highlighted the stark contrast between Dr. Bawumia’s initial stance against widespread sole-sourcing and the current reality under his administration. Sammy Gyamfi conceded that sole-sourcing, in itself, is not inherently flawed, but contended that the NPP government has flagrantly exploited this provision, undermining its original intent and integrity.

During the NDC’s ‘Moment of Truth’ event, Sammy Gyamfi accused Vice President Bawumia of hypocrisy and dishonesty, citing his past criticism of sole-sourcing. Gyamfi alleged that Dr. Bawumia has overseen the awarding of contracts to his brother and other family members, enriching them through questionable sole-sourced deals. He claimed that the Bawumia family has profited significantly from these contracts, labeling the NPP government as corrupt and nation-wrecking.

The NDC has raised concern over the lack of transparency in the awarding of contracts, citing the 2019 rehabilitation of Sunyani Airport, which cost GHS 52.25 million. Sammy Gyamfi alleged that this project was awarded without a competitive tendering process, raising questions about potential favoritism. The NDC argues that this, combined with other contracts allegedly awarded to Dr. Bawumia’s family members, contradicts his claims of prioritizing the interests of Ghanaians.
