Parliament to reconvene on September 3

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has recalled Members of Parliament from their recess for a special session, scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, in the afternoon. The Speaker announced this in a communiqué issued on Wednesday, August 7, convening the House for urgent business.

The decision to reconvene Parliament on September 3 comes after Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin submitted a petition, voicing the Majority caucus’ discontent with the Speaker’s indefinite adjournment of the session on July 30, 2024. The petition prompted the Speaker to recall the House for an emergency sitting.

On Wednesday, July 31, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin wrote to Speaker Bagbin, emphasizing the need for Parliament to reconvene and tackle pressing government matters that require immediate attention.

The emergency sitting on September 3 will focus on several critical issues, including the Financing Agreement between Ghana and the International Development Association, requests for tax exemptions for beneficiaries of the One District, One Factory Programme, matters related to the Ghana Financial Stability Fund, and the consideration of several pending bills. These key agenda items require urgent attention and will be addressed by Parliament during the special session.
