Dismissed Police Officer, Corporal Emmanuel Nyame, who is facing charges for defiling a 13 year old girl has been refused bail by Koforidua Circuit Court ‘B’.

The defence lawyer for Nyame, Francis Xavier Sosu requested for bail for his client on the basis of his client being a first time offender who has also surrendered his passport and is willing to avail himself for trial anytime.

However, the prosecution opposed the request citing Nyame’s previous bail violation and evasion of justice for five years.

Nyame was arrested at the Kotoka international Airport while returning from Dubai few weeks ago after going into hiding in 2019.

According to the prosecutor, the accused took advantage of the victim while his fiancéé was at a funeral on April 11, 2019.

The accused is alleged to asked the victim to run some errands for him. He then lured her to his house at Nsukwao Police Barracks near Ghateco where he told her to fold washed clothes and take them to his room. Nyame took advantage of the victim, defiled and warned her not to tell anyone.

However the victim shared her ordeal with her cousin who informed other family members.

The victim’s father upon hearing the incident reported to the police and upon medical examination, it was confirmed that the girl had been defiled.

Medical reports and further investigation led to Nyame’s arrest.

Corporal Nyame absconded when he was granted bail to appear in court on August 13, 2019.

The accused was declared wanted by the Ghana Police service.

Immigration officers arrested the accused upon his return from Dubai on 21, June 2024 at the Kotoka international Airport and handed him over to the police.

The case has been adjourned to 26 September 2024.
