Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has reaffirmed the party’s decision not to sign any peace pact ahead of the 2024 General Elections.

He has presented six conditions, including a requirement for the President, the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief Justice, the National Security Coordinator, and the Attorney General to all sign the agreement.

He made this announcement during a meeting with the National Peace Council on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Asiedu Nketia emphasized that the NDC is not prepared to “let bygones be bygones,” insisting that President Akufo-Addo must publicly commit to respecting the outcome of the 2024 elections.

He further stated that the NDC will not participate in any peace agreement until the recommendations from the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence investigation are fully implemented. Asiedu Nketia also called for the prosecution of those responsible for the violence during the 2020 elections and other related irregularities.

Additionally, the party is demanding an investigation into the missing IT equipment from the Electoral Commission’s warehouse.

The National Peace Council has called on political parties to set aside any animosity and work towards peace as the general elections draw near.

Speaking on behalf of the council at a meeting, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih stressed the importance of maintaining peace. He emphasized that achieving this goal would require the full cooperation of all political parties.
