The Ghana Tourism Authority marks September of every year to promote domestic tourism activities in Ghana.

The official launch of this year’s Tourism Month was was done by Parliamentary Tourism Committee member and Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Opoku Ansah. “The initiative is geared towards encouraging the patronage of prominent festivals, events, tourist sites and attractions in the country as well as highlighting the critical roles domestic tourism plays in growing an inclusive and sustainable tourism economy; I officially declare this year’s Tourism Month duly launched.”

Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ben Anane Nsiah, in his remarks, described the timing of the launch as strategic as it aligns with the United Nations World Tourism Day, celebrated September 27 annually. “Tourism is growing as a national activity; the numbers are good and they will be better if more of the domestic tourists inculcate the habit of moving around; it becomes a lifestyle choice that it’s normal for people to sit down, to plan to have an activity, take the family out somewhere it should become as normal as going for funerals.” he said.

The list of events which include site seeing, festival celebrations, communal campaigns which are set to run on all-month-long, across different regions of Ghana this September.

Activities for this year’s Tourism Month are expected to engage Ghanaians and sets the spotlight on the untapped potential of domestic tourism in Ghana.

Tourism Month officially launched on, August 30, 2024 will be climaxed with the United Nations World Tourism Day celebrations.
