Director of Corporate Affairs at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Emmanuel Kwasi Afriyie has stated that there are numerous job opportunities in Ghana.

However, he pointed out that the real challenge lies with the current labor force, particularly young people who are reluctant to accept jobs in certain parts of the country.

Speaking at the press launch of the Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair in Accra on Friday, September 6, 2024, Mr. Afriyie emphasized that many small businesses, especially in remote areas, are in need of workers.

Despite these openings, job seekers are often unwilling to relocate to such locations.

He also highlighted the difficulties small businesses face in reaching potential employees due to their inability to afford advertising on radio or TV.

He said the Youth Employment Agency, which is a government-subsidized entity, is supporting the Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair because it aligns with their mission of providing free employment services. The fair offers a no-cost platform for both employers and job seekers, allowing employers to set up stands without paying fees, and job seekers to access application forms at no cost.

Mr. Afriyie also addressed a growing concern regarding the attitude and expectations of young job seekers. He noted that many are not interested in going through necessary steps such as internships and training programs.

Additionally, he said some graduates struggle with basic skills such as writing CVs and memos, which further limits their job prospects.

The Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair is designed to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers and is scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 5, 2024 at the Accra International Conference Center and the the Independence Square.

The event will provide a platform for entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase their projects and drive economic growth in Ghana. Over 5,000 jobs will be available during the fair, offering a valuable opportunity for both employers and job seekers.
