We are embarrassed – GFA speaks on Baba Yara stadium ban

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reacted to the ban placed on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

CAF declared the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi not fit for purpose and revoked the facility’s license to host a category 3 game after the Black Stars game against Angola.

And with the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi having been the only certified sports facility in Ghana to host international games, the Black Stars might be playing their home game against Sudan outside Ghana.

Reacting to this news, Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the GFA said the GFA is embarrassed that Ghana has suffered this humiliation.

“The demands that were made, some were done, others were not. When we look at the support Ghanaians give us during Black Stars matches at home both on and off the pitch, it is very unfortunate. Definitely, we are embarrassed; it is not the best of news,” He said.

On the performance of the Black Stars in the AFCON qualifiers, Henry Asante Twum said “It [Black Stars performance] doesn’t look good on paper, but before the next international break, anything is possible and things can change. The coaches have assured us that they will take drastic measures to ensure we get back to winning ways.”
