NPP has disgraced us – John Mahama reacts to ban on Baba Yara Stadium by CAF

Former president, John Dramani Mahama has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of disgracing the country by allowing sporting facilities to rot.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo administration boasts about massive sporting development under their tenure but it is under the NPP that the country is struggling to get a stadium with a standard pitch to host CAF category 3 games.

He said the NPP has already disgraced the country with their excessive borrowing and now the ban on the Baba Yara Stadium which was the only accredited facility in Ghana to host category 3 games was the final nail in the coffin.

“The NPP has disgraced us as a country. First, they have borrowed a lot of money which has turned into debts we can’t pay. These actions of the NPP have become like a historical disgrace to the country.”

“The latest news now is that CAF has banned Ghana from hosting AFCON qualifiers because of the bad nature of our football pitches. So Ghanaian footballers have to travel all the way to other countries just to play football. This is the biggest disgrace in the history of Ghana,” Mahama said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has instructed the Ghana Football Association to propose the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as venues for the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
