Organized Labour has announced their plan to embark on a nationwide strike starting October 10, 2024, in response to the government’s failure to meet their demands regarding the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

During an emergency meeting on Tuesday, October 1st, Organized Labour voiced their frustration over the government’s lack of action on the issue.

They had previously set a deadline at the end of September for the government to take decisive steps to curb illegal mining, citing its devastating impact on the environment and the livelihoods of countless Ghanaians.

In a statement, Joshua Ansah, Secretary General of the TUC, emphasized, “Following the expiration of our deadline, and the failure of the government to meet our demands on illegal mining, Organised Labour has decided to declare a nationwide strike with effect from October 10, 2024”.
