The Ministry of Health has referred the case of alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Central Region, that led to the death of an old woman to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department.

This follows an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which revealed serious lapses by hospital staff in connection with the death of an elderly woman who was transferred to Ojobi and later abandoned until she passed away.

According to a statement from the Health Ministry on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the GHS probe found that certain employees failed to act properly, contributing to the patient’s death. While the inquiry committee recommended internal disciplinary actions against those involved, the Ministry has decided to pursue further investigations due to the severity of the incident and the fatal outcome.

To ensure full accountability, the Ministry has called on the Attorney General to assess the staff’s culpability and initiate legal proceedings if necessary. The case has also been handed over to the CID for a criminal investigation. The Ministry emphasized its dedication to maintaining high standards of healthcare service delivery and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
