11th African Legends Night: A Spectacular Celebration of African Music Legends

The spirit of African music flourished in full splendor at the 11th edition of the African Legends Night that took place at the Grand Arena here in Accra on October 5th, 2024.

The night was a vibrant celebration of Africa’s rich musical heritage, with unforgettable performances from Yvonne Chaka Chaka, George Jahraa, Okyeame Kwame and Adane Best, that brought together both music legends and enthusiastic fans.

Organized by Global Media Alliance, the 11th edition of African Legends Night was a testament to the enduring legacy of African music. Hosted by the charismatic duo – Happy FM’s Akua Sika and Comedian Foster Romanus, the event brought together an array of legendary artists, who gave thrilling performances that left the audience in awe.

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that it was going to be a night dedicated to celebrating the rich musical heritage of Africa.
The evening commenced with a vibrant performance by the Patchbay Band, setting the tone for the night ahead. With their seamless fusion of live music and impeccable rhythms, the band charged the atmosphere and prepared the audience for what would become a legendary night of performances.

11th Edition of African Legends Night – Adane Best

The show officially kicked off with Adane Best, a man whose name needs no introduction in the world of highlife music. Known for his ability to blend storytelling with melodies, Adane Best’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. He brought the crowd to their feet with a series of back-to-back hits, but it was his iconic song “Gyata Bi” that truly set the tone for the night. To the amazement of the audience, a human lion joined him on stage, adding a theatrical flair that had everyone roaring in approval.

11th Edition of African Legends Night – George Jahraa

Following closely was George Jahraa, another legend with over 30 years in the music industry. His dynamic performance kept the energy soaring, demonstrating why he remains a force in African music. With a captivating stage presence, George Jahraa proved that his enduring career is a testament to his musical prowess.

11th Edition of African Legends Night – Yvonne Chaka Chaka

The “Princess of Africa,” Yvonne Chaka Chaka, then graced the stage with her signature poise and energy. Performing hits like “Thank You Mr. DJ” and “Umqombothi,” she effortlessly engaged the crowd, who joined in on a memorable sing-along. Her performance was a powerful reminder of her enduring influence on African music.

11th Edition of African Legends Night – Okyeame Kwame

As the night progressed, the audience was treated to the magic of Okyeame Kwame, the “Rap Doctor,” whose performance rounded off the evening. Known for his lyrical dexterity and smooth delivery, Okyeame Kwame performed some of his biggest hits like “Woara” and “Made in Ghana, effortlessly blending rap and traditional African rhythms. His performance was a musical journey that healed, as his title suggests, bringing joy to the audience as they danced and rapped along to his infectious tunes.

Each performer was honored with a citation and inducted into the prestigious African Legends Hall of Fame. DJ Carcious of YFM capped off the event with a lively set, ensuring that the night ended in high spirits.
Reflecting on the success of the event, Mr. Ernest Boateng, CEO of Global Media Alliance, remarked, “African music reflects our rich heritage. Events like African Legends Night not only entertain but also honor the legends who have shaped our culture. We are proud to celebrate these icons and keep their legacies alive for future generations.”

As the night came to a close, the audience left with memories that will last a lifetime. The African Legends Night has once again succeeded in bringing together some of the most influential figures in African music, providing a platform for them to be celebrated while connecting with fans both old and new. With the bar set so high this year, expectations are already building for the next edition, where new legends will undoubtedly take the stage to continue this proud tradition.

The 11th edition of African Legends Night was sponsored by Consolidated Bank Ghana, Ghana Tourism Authority with support from Silverbird Cinemas, Bel-Aqua, Coca Cola, Eddy’s Pizza, Verna Water, Distrikt 24, Really Great Brands (RGB), e-Productions, and Perception Management International.
