Chairman of Ghana Committed Drivers Association, Charles Danso has emphasized that it is only Police Officers who are above the rank of inspector can seize driver’s license.

According to him, the road traffic Regulation L.I 2180 regulation 47 states that every driver must carry his or her driving license with him while driving because police officers in uniform or road safety authority officers can inspect the license but cannot seize it.

In an interview with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah on Happy 98.9 FM’s Morning Show, Mr. Danso noted with concern that a lot of drivers have had their license seized by police officers who are not supposed to and it has resulted in countless drivers licenses in police custody.

“If you go to Nima Police station, Accra Central Police station and Dansoman Police station for instance, there are a lot of driver’s licenses in their drawers that is very alarming”.

He also said police officers below the rank of inspectors who are supposed to regulate traffic on roads are now seizing drivers licenses instead of doing their job?.

“The rate at which the Police are intimidating drivers on our roads is too much and inappropriate and the law must take its course”, he added.
