NDC claims vindication as EC reverses decision to print ballot papers without certified voters register

The Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah, has credited the party’s advocacy and pressure from Ghanaians for the Electoral Commission’s (EC) reversal of its decision to print ballot papers for the 2024 general election without certified voters register statistics.

In a Facebook post on Friday, October 11, 2024, Dr. Boamah accused the EC, led by Jean Mensah, of initially planning to proceed with the printing process without the crucial voter data, a move he described as dangerous for the integrity of the election.

Citing a letter from the EC dated October 9, 2024, Dr. Boamah pointed out that the Commission stated it would commence printing of the Notice of Poll and ballot papers on October 11.

He noted that the letter made no distinction about relying on certified voters register statistics, which the NDC viewed as an attempt to pave the way for electoral manipulation.

According to Dr. Boamah, both the NDC’s National Chairman and General Secretary had vehemently opposed the EC’s decision. He reiterated that rigging elections is a process, not a one-time event, and that the party, through its #EAGLEEYES campaign, would continue to monitor and pressure the EC to ensure that the electoral process remains transparent and credible.

He warned that the NDC will not hesitate to expose any irregularities in the lead-up to the December 2024 elections, promising that the party will hold the Electoral Commission accountable to ensure a free and fair election.
