The Ghana Armed Forces has issued a stern warning against civilians wearing military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements, particularly during demonstrations and when providing security for public figures. This practice has been on the rise, despite previous warnings, and is also common in illegal mining areas.

The Ghana Armed Forces(GAF), expressed concerns that this unauthorized use poses significant security risks and could tarnish the military’s image. The National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967 prohibits civilians from wearing military uniforms, equipment or accoutrements without authorization.

To address this issue, GAF has vowed in a press statement, to arrest and prosecute offenders, urging the public to report suspicious activities involving unauthorized military attire.

“In light of the security implications of these illegal acts, GAF will henceforth take decisive actions, including, the arrest of persons who violate these regulations to face the full rigour of the law. We also urge the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorised military attire”, part of the statement highlighted.

The military emphasized its commitment to protecting the country and its citizens, seeking cooperation to enforce measures ensuring peace and security.
