The Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan, has praised the government for its significant achievements in the education sector, particularly in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

She highlighted that in the past, students who failed to meet certain grade requirements after Junior High School (JHS) were often unable to continue their education. However, the introduction of free TVET education has created opportunities for such students to develop essential skills that can positively impact their lives and contribute to national progress.

Speaking at the Central Regional edition of the Regional Townhall Meeting and Exhibition on Tuesday October 15, the minister noted that the government’s decision to make TVET education free reflects a recognition of the potential in students with practical skills. Enrollment in TVET institutions has grown remarkably, nearly surpassing the numbers in the Free Senior High School program.

She also emphasized the government’s commitment to providing infrastructure for TVET schools, mentioning Winneba and Asuansi Technical Institute as examples of institutions benefiting from this initiative. The facilities provided to TVET schools, she pointed out, are on par with, or even exceed, those available at some universities.

The minister urged parents and guardians to guide children who may not excel academically toward TVET education. She stressed that the skills provided through TVET help students develop expertise, enhancing their employability and contributing to the country’s economic development.
