In a decisive move to bolster security within the legislative chamber, Ghana’s Parliament has announced comprehensive measures to safeguard the Right Honourable Speaker, Members of Parliament (MPs), parliamentary staff and visitors. These protocols ensure a secure environment during parliamentary sessions.

Mandatory security screening is now required for all MPs, staff and press before entering the Chamber, guaranteeing thorough vetting for all entrants. Personal bodyguards accompanying MPs are no longer permitted within the Chamber, reinforcing Parliament’s security apparatus.

To prevent congestion and enhance security, vehicles are barred from parking near the Grand Arena, with designated parking zones allocated. High-profile individuals must utilize designated drop-off points within the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) precincts, ensuring smooth traffic flow.

Deputy Marshall WG CDR Frederick Bawa (Rtd) outlined these measures in a statement on Monday, October 21, emphasizing Parliament’s commitment to protecting its members, staff and visitors. MPs are urged to comply with these enhanced protocols for the greater good.

The introduction of these security measures reinforces Parliament’s responsibility to provide a secure environment conducive to effective governance. By prioritizing safety, Parliament demonstrates its dedication to the well-being of its members and the democratic process.
