Domelevo presses Supreme Court for unbiased handling of electoral cases

Former Auditor-General Dominic Domelevo has called on the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, to demonstrate professionalism in handling electoral disputes.

He emphasized the importance of impartiality in adjudication to maintain public trust in the judiciary.

Speaking at an event organized by Crusaders for Change in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, Domelevo urged the judiciary to consider the advice of the Minister of National Security, Kan-Dapaah. He warned that biased rulings, especially if perceived to favor one political party, could undermine confidence in the justice system and create tensions.

He expressed concern that a pattern of predictable outcomes from the Supreme Court is contributing to public dissatisfaction.

He referenced remarks attributed to former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, suggesting that the predictability of the court’s decisions has become a matter of concern. He stressed that the judiciary must focus on professionalism to ensure fairness and impartiality in its rulings, particularly in electoral matters, to prevent further erosion of trust.

“I read somewhere that the former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo said the Supreme Court is now very predictable. If she actually said it, then I could not agree more with her because most of you knew what the results were going to be before it came. I don’t think we need that. We need professionalism.”
