Vision FC are the acting landlords of Accra not Hearts of Oak – Ibrahim Babangida Alhassan teases ahead of GPL clash

Ahead of their eagerly anticipated Ghana Premier League (GPL) local derby clash with Hearts of Oak today November 8 , Ibrahim Babangida Alhassan, the Head of Media Relations for newly promoted Vision FC, has confidently declared that his side is now the “acting landlords” of Accra.

His comments come as Vision FC prepare for their first-ever top-flight meeting with the Phobians at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.

In an interview on HappySports, Babangida took a bold stance, stating that Vision FC has inherited the role of the capital city’s dominant club, a position previously held by Great Olympics until their relegation to the Division One League last season.

“Since Great Olympics were relegated, Vision FC has taken over as the acting landlords of Accra,” Babangida remarked with palpable confidence. “We’ve shown we are the senior prefects of the newly promoted sides this season, as our position on the league log clearly proves. As it stands, the baton has passed to us, and on Friday night, we will prove our supremacy by beating Hearts of Oak at the Legon Sports Stadium.”

With Vision FC sitting mid-table in the league after nine matches, Babangida’s comments underscore the club’s ambition and growing belief in their ability to compete at the highest level. Despite being newcomers to the Ghana Premier League, Vision FC has shown resilience, collecting two wins, two defeats, and five draws, with six goals scored and seven conceded.

The local derby will be Vision FC’s chance to announce themselves in Accra’s footballing landscape, where Hearts of Oak, historically one of the most successful clubs in Ghana, continue to struggle for consistency this season. Hearts head into the fixture with a recent 2-0 win over title contenders Medeama, which has lifted spirits in their camp after a series of inconsistent performances.

Hearts of Oak’s mixed record this season – with three wins, three draws, and three losses – reflects their ongoing battle for form. The Phobians have shown flashes of brilliance, including their victory over Medeama, but have also struggled defensively at times, conceding five goals while scoring six. Their aim will be to carry the momentum from the win over Medeama and make a statement by overcoming the challenge from the league’s newest entrants.

Despite Vision FC’s promising start to the season, the Phobians are considered the more experienced side and will be seen as slight favorites heading into this historic Accra derby. However, Babangida’s comments highlight his side’s determination to show that they are ready to challenge the established order and firmly plant themselves as a force in Ghanaian football.

As the two sides prepare for what promises to be a thrilling contest under the lights of the University of Ghana Stadium, all eyes will be on Vision FC as they look to prove that their place in the league is no fluke, and perhaps, establish their own claim as the true “landlords” of Accra.

With both teams eager to claim bragging rights, this fixture could set the tone for the rest of the season for both clubs. For Vision FC, it’s a chance to assert their dominance in Accra and prove that they belong at the top, while for Hearts of Oak, it’s an opportunity to build on their momentum and rekindle their title ambitions. The stage is set for an exciting derby with an overflow of passion, pride, and history on the line.
