Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame has urged Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court on the vacant seats controversy.

According to Godfred Dame, the Speaker has no option than to comply with the decision of the Supreme Court because the ruling from the Apex Court was clear as day.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, overruled Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats vacant stating that the decision was unconstitutional.

Godfred Dame while addressing the media said the only thing anybody can do about this ruling is to respect the decision of the court because whenever the court speaks it is final.

“The court has spoken in clear terms, the only thing anybody can do, is to respect the decision of the court because that is the hallmark of a civilized democratic order.”

“It leaves no room for any arguments whatsoever and the majority decision tells you that there is no room for review. Whenever the court speaks, we must all respect the ruling,” Attorney General Godfred Dame said.

The Supreme court led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and comprising seven justices, ruled in favour of Afenyo-Markin, accepting all his arguments in a 5-2 majority decision.
