Israel advocates for political regime change in Gaza

The Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ghana Liberia and Sierra Leone, H.E. Roey Gilad, has emphasized that Israel’s goal for Gaza is a political regime change, an objective held since the beginning of the 14-month conflict in the region.

Speaking in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with host Bismark Brown, Ambassador Gilad clarified Israel’s position amid widespread misconceptions about the ongoing war between Israeli forces and Hamas militants. He addressed claims regarding Israel’s intentions in Gaza, particularly the subject of annexation.

“One major misconception,” the ambassador stated, “is the annexation of Gaza, which would place it under Israel’s control. That is certainly not the main objective of Israel; there are matters to be said. There is a minority of radical right-wing politicians and some people in Israel that would like to see annexation of some parts of Gaza. This is not the position of the government.”

Ambassador Gillad further explained that a majority of Israelis, along with the Israeli government, advocate for what he termed The Day After in Gaza, which envisions a political shift in Gaza. He described this regime shift as on which was previously handled by Hamas and presently ruled by Palistinian authorities backed by the United States, Egypt, the European Union, and other Arab nations.

“A huge majority of Israelis would like to see what we call The Day After in Gaza. Gaza is not controlled by Hamas anymore but is being controlled by Palestinian authorities being supported by the US, by Egypt, by the EU, and other Arab countries,” he said.

The ambassador also expressed confidence that a change in Gaza’s political regime would relieve the suffering of civilians affected by the conflict. “Gaza has no arms; it has to be demilitarized, that has to be clear,” he stated. “Currently, Gaza’s mosques and schools are under Hamas authority, and the people have been taught how to slaughter Jews, but we believe that there is a day after; we are looking for a regime change.”
