Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, H.E Roye Gillard has noted that the United Nations (UN) still remains regarded – despite unheard requests by U.N member states to the security council for a ceasefire in ongoing insurgencies between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza.

The ambassador in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with host Bismark Brown made mention of Israel’s keen observance of all proceedings that are being carried out by the international body.

“We do not undermine the UN; we know the importance of the UN so we do not undermine the UN,” he said.

Meanwhile, UN Security Council has repeatedly urged for a humanitarian ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza conflict, responding to the mounting civilian toll. While a ceasefire has not been fully achieved, the Council passed a resolution calling for “extended humanitarian pauses,” aiming to allow crucial aid to reach civilians in Gaza. Many Council members emphasized that only a formal, lasting ceasefire can adequately address the crisis.

Adding on to recent reports, the latest requests to the international security body were made on Tuesday by leaders of Arab and Islamic member states of the United Nations (UN) who are advocating for a suspension of Israel’s membership in the United Nations – a move which is expected to intensify international pressure for a ceasefire over the ongoing conflict in Gaza and Lebanon.
